At our General Meeting on November 7, 1998, the CDF decided to pursue the publication of a Quarterly Newsletter. The objective of this Newsletter is to gain recognition for the organization by producing ideas/opinions that can have a favorable impact on the region.
Our Newsletter Team identified three major roles of the publication:1. To canvas, distill and report the opinions of individuals in the Caribbean region/diaspora who possess both knowledge and experience of issues important to CDF's mission
2. To serve as a platform to promote CDF's perspectives on these issues, using the opinions expressed by contributors as background material
3. To catalyze change in the region by keeping these issues on the agenda and in the minds of newsletter recipients (which will hopefully include decision makers in the region)
Form of newsletter: Thematic/TopicalOur current thinking is that each issue will have a different topical focus, but will revisit themes important to the CDF and its mission. Issues arising in ongoing CDF projects (e.g. IT promotion/planning, education) can be a fertile source of ideas, as members will have developed both the expertise and practical experience to write intelligently about them.
We will attempt to produce content that has regional relevance. Due to the length of the publication (initially 4 printed pages), the Editor will place restrictions on the use and presentation of all contributions, articles and intellectual property. However, since we do not intend to dilute the potential benefit of other people's ideas/agendas, we will attempt to disclose the full content of all written contributions on a website with an appropriate disclaimer.
Our distribution plan will combine the use or electronic and regular mail, and is subject to change depending on cost and readership. Initially we plan to use regular mail to reach particular segments of our target audience who may be more receptive to the printed form. For others who rely heavily on electronic mail and prefer the electronic form, this will be the modus operandi. We are also hoping to establish alliances with local/regional entities that are willing to produce and distribute the printed form among our target audience. If you would like to assist with this effort please contact us below.
In an attempt to stimulate meaningful feedback, the Editorial team developed a list of generic questions which provides a useful framework to cultivate. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list but is a good starting point:
- Based on your experience/expertise, what are your visions of future industries (or existing industries) in the Caribbean?
- What are the resource requirements/inputs and what are the outputs/effects of development of the above sectors?
- Who are the major players that should be involved in this effort?
- What are the enabling and constraining factors to growth in these industries?
- What is the process by which you see this vision being realized?
If you wish to provide feedback, or would like to be on the distribution list please contact the Co-Editors :
