Turangi and Tongariro National Park
We left Auckland and traveled south to Waitomo, where we spent an adrenaline-filled day black-water rafting (also including rappelling, zip lining, and waterfall climbing) at the Waitomo Caves. We continued southeast to Turangi, spending a restful night near the trout streams of the Tongariro river. The next day we hiked the spectacular Tongariro Crossing in Tongariro National Park, taking in a surreal volcanic landscape while traversing active lava craters.
