Admission

Current MIT undergraduate and graduate students are automatically eligible for participation in the Summer Session.

Undergraduate and graduate students from other colleges and universities may be admitted for the Summer Session as special (non-degree) students. Those wishing to enroll as special students should contact the Office of Admissions by phone at 617-253-4770, or email esheldon@mit.edu, to obtain an application. The deadline for US citizens and permanent residents is May 1; the deadline for international students is March 1. International students living outside the US are not permitted to apply for the summer session. The admission standards for the Summer Session are the same as those for the regular academic year.

Registration

Current MIT students pre-register for the Summer Session through WebSIS at http://student.mit.edu/ starting May 1.

The Registrar's Office will forward Registration Forms to departments for students who have pre-registered. Graduate students who are enrolled in a research degree program and who are taking only thesis or pre-thesis research subjects during the summer will have their registration form automatically approved and submitted to the Registrar's Office by their department. All other students should contact their department to discuss subject selection and completion of the registration form.

Signed Summer Registration Forms must be submitted to the Student Services Center, 11-120, by the end of the first week of the term, June 12 ($40 late fee). All subsequent changes in subject registration require submission of Add/Drop/Change Forms approved by the advisor.

Students expecting to complete a degree in the Summer Session (awarded in September) should submit an online degree application through WebSIS by Friday, June 12 ($40 late fee).
