Collaborative Innovation > Transformational Impact
Nov. 2006 - Vol 1, Issue 2
In This Issue
Welcome to our second edition of CBI Report. It's been a busy, fruitful and exciting time at CBI. Our second Stakeholder Summit was a great success, with more than 140 attendees meeting in large sessions and work groups that helped set the framework for ongoing and new work at the Center (read about it below). We have begun a major project with the FDA on Post Marketing Surveillance that promises to provide new, more effective tools for reporting adverse effects of drugs in real time. We also welcome new members to the CBI Consortium: Novartis and the Brain Resource Company. Our plate is very full with projects and plans, and I'm quite pleased with our progress. For those who are not members of CBI yet, we hope you'll consider a membership to help us continue our groundbreaking work to drive innovation and transform the industry.
Regards,
Frank Douglas

2nd ANNNUAL STAKEHOLDERS' SUMMIT
MIT's Center for Biomedical Innovation held its second annual Stakeholders‚ Summit on September 25 and 26, 2006 in Cambridge MA. (Pictured at left are Summit Speakers, L. to r.: Dr. Steven Paul, President, Lilly Labs; CBI Executive Director Dr. Frank L. Douglas; FDA COO Dr. Janet Woodcock; CBI Co- Director Anthony J. The Summit drew 143 participants from a broad range of international stakeholder groups, including industry (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, data management, provider and payer organizations), government, and academia. Attendees explored program theme of „Optimizing the Productivity of Academic-Industry Collaborations‰ within the context of five specific research topics, each representing a current or potential Transformational Research Program (TRP) of CBI:
- Post Marketing Surveillance
- R&D Productivity
- Follow on Biologics
- Clinical Trials/Stratified Medicine
- Vaccines
The Summit proved a rich resource for guiding CBI's TRP's. Within CBI's "Safe Haven" framework, participants shared their thinking and guidance on key issues facing each of the identified research topics and came up with a set of recommendations for each of the TRPs. The Summit also enabled attendees to explore collaborative ideas and network.
