Kauffman Foundation Awards $60,000 Gift to CBI
In January, CBI received a $60,000 gift from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to further the Center's leading edge work to transform global healthcare innovation and delivery. "We believe that CBI's approach, which emphasizes research that has real world impacts, has tremendous potential for the delivery of healthcare," said Lesa Mitchell, the Kauffman Foundation's Vice President for Advancing Innovation.

New Paper by Trusheim, Berndt and Douglas in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery
"Stratified Medicine: Strategic and Economic Implications of Combining Drugs and Clinical Biomarkers," by CBI members Mark R. Trusheim, Ernst R. Berndt and Frank L. Douglas, is available in the current issue of Nature Reviews Drug Discovery.

Dr. Frank Douglas Receives Black History Makers Award
CBI Executive Director Frank L. Douglas, M.D., Ph.D. was named a 2007 "Black History Maker" by Associated Black Charities. Dr. Douglas is one of five recipients honored at the New York Marriott Marquis on April 11, 2007. Past recipients have included U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, Justice Thurgood Marshall and other notables.

Dr. Mark McClellan Joins CBI Strategy & Policy Council

Mark McCllellan, M.D., Ph.D., former Commissioner of the FDA and Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has joined the CBI Strategy & Policy Council. Prior to joining the FDA, Dr. McClellan was Associate Professor of Economics at Stanford University, Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford Medical School, a practicing internist, and Director of the Program on Health Outcomes Research at Stanford University.The Strategy & Policy Council serves as a major advisory committee, helping to guide CBI research activities and the development of initiatives and projects. |
CBI UPDATE: The Center's TRPs
CBI's Research Agenda focuses on four broad areas which have critical importance to the biomedical value chain: Safety Assessment; Redesigning R&D; Economic, Financial & Risk Management; and Manufacturing & Distribution. Within these areas, focused Transformational Research Projects (TRPs) are conducted by cross-disciplinary Working Groups, led by Principal Investigators from MIT or Harvard and co-led by industry experts. TRPs seek to generate new tools, insights and methods that are demonstrably effective in applied biomedical settings.

On May 10, CBI will co-sponsor a special invitational conference, "FROM INNOVATION TO IMPACT: Healthcare IT Strategies to Bridge the Gap", with PRIME ("Pharmaceutical R&D Information Management Executive" Forum); This special conference, taking place in Cambridge, will feature several high-level presentations from CBI researchers and industry members.
