CBI Leadership Transition Moving Ahead

It's been an eventful month at the MIT Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI). Founding Executive Director Dr. Frank Douglas resigned from MIT on June 30th. Gigi Hirsch, MD has been appointed Interim Executive Director. The MIT administration has made a strong commitment to continue the important work and mission of CBI. Co-Directors Professors Anthony Sinskey, Ernst Berndt, and Steve Tannenbaum, along with Dr. Hirsch and Assistant Director Sherene Aram have developed a transition plan for CBI, which will move CBI forward in new and exciting ways.

Research Portfolio Review

We have concluded a review of our Research Portfolio, based on our Transition Plan and consultations with Researchers and Group Leaders, and have made some important changes to the portfolio.

See the overview of our updated research portfolio here.

Recent CBI Publications

CBI has a growing list of publications, white papers, and masters theses on a variety of research topics conducted by CBI researchers and affiliates. Please visit the Publications section of our website to view recent publications, including:

The Barriers and Enablers of Collaboration within Geographic Clusters; Bahri (Masters Thesis)

A Self Scaling, Distributed Architecture for Public Health, Research, and Clinical Care; McMurry, Gilbert, Reis, Chueh, Kohane, Mandl (J Am Med Inform Assoc. 2007;14:527-533. DOI 10.1197/jamia.M2371.)

Outreach

A top priority for our Transition Plan is expanding our outreach and communication to CBI Consortium Members, the FDA and CDC, and faculty from MIT and Harvard. We've already spoken with many of you and received valuable feedback, encouragement and advice. Over the next three months, we will continue this ongoing contact, including a number of site visits. We welcome your comments, suggestion and on-going support.

Thanks again for your interest and support for CBI.
Best regards,

Dr. Gigi Hirsch
