Frequent
Asked Questions and Answers
Who
will be qualified for being a member of the group?
As
long as you like singing in the group and enjoy learning Chinese culture,
regardless of your occupation, nationality, race, and level of knowledge
in choral music, you are welcome to be a member of CCCS. We don't set
up any qualification or constraints to screen the applicants. The majority
of CCCS members are from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
There are a few Americans and non-Chinese speakers in our group as well.
I
have very limited knowledge in classical and choral music. Am I the
right person for your group?
If
you are interested in singing in the group and exploring the field of
choral music, you are the right person for our group. It doesn't matter
what you have known or how well you are trained. We welcome you as long
as you are willing to try! We always have balanced and diversified repertoire
which includes classical contemporary, folk songs, musical, opera, and
even pop songs.
Is
CCCS a commercial organization?
No.
CCCS is a non-profit organization and a registered student organization
at MIT. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in singing, regardless
of age, culture, or nationality.
I
don't know how to read scores, can I join?
Don't
worry. We provide pre-recorded tape for members who were not trained
in sight reading. You can practice the songs by following the tape.
Furthermore, section leads will also help you improve your voice and
sight reading skills.
How
do you run CCCS ?
This
organization is governed by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee
shall be chaired by the President, who is elected by voting members
during a General Meeting which is usually held in late April of a given
year. To learn more about the management of CCCS, please refer to CCCS
Constitution.
I
would like to apply for the position of conductor or accompanist, how
should I do ?
We
accepted applications submitted during January to March for the next
term. The one year tenure starts on May 1st and ends on April 30th the
following year. Applicants need to submit yearly plan, repertoire, and
brief biography. The President will call-up a sub-committee to process
the applications. Once the position of conductor is fulfilled, the accompanist
is recruited by conductor.
Do
I need to pay the membership fee to become a member? What are obligations
for members?
Yes.
The membership fee is collected annually and score fee is collected
twice a year. Membership fee: $10 /year for students and $15/year for
non-students. Score fee: $5/per term.
Do
you engage in other activities other than regular rehearsals?
In
addition to our regular rehearsals and yearly concerts, we are very
active in participating community events, charity activities, and reciprocal
affairs with other groups. We also set up a "refreshment time" in our
regular rehearsal hours so that you can enjoy variety of food and desserts
prepared by CCCS members. To learn more about our activities, please
check the Happy Moments.
