Hello AMPeerS and Colleagues, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Counterman will assume the role of Head, Web Tools and Operations at AMPS, and Chief Architect, Stellar as of July 1, 2003. Craig's focus will primarily be on the following: * Leading development and enhancement and acting as lead systems architect for ongoing development and enhancement of Stellar and other AMPS learning management applications related to OKI and MIT infrastructure projects. * Providing technical leadership for and promotion of MIT infrastructure and AMPS services for other campus communities developing or implementing educational tools or related Internet applications. Craig brings with him a very strong understanding of the user experience at MIT and of the MIT community. His areas of expertise cover several fields, ranging from Web-based technologies, software development, and UNIX systems to the incorporation of computer-based tools into the curriculum of an Engineering discipline. Craig received his B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT, and his Ph.D. from the same department in 1991. He subsequently worked as a Research Associate in DMSE and then as Director of Departmental Computing Resources before moving to the Academic Computing Support team as a Faculty Liaison. Over the past few years, Craigms focus has been on architecting and developing Stellar, MITms Web-based course/learning management system. A graduate of E.L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Craig is a member of the Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. He was a National Merit Scholar, and won National Scholastic Art Awards. In his spare time, that is, when he is not dreaming of and working on the next version of Stellar, Craig indulges in astronomy and photography. AMPS is a strategic infrastructure organization and a key part of the Institutems overall strategy for supporting MIT faculty and the community on educational technology. I look forward to the leadership Craig brings to his new role, and to the growth of AMPS as the pre-eminent service organization.
