Koch Institute Faculty

A Peerless Mix

The Koch Institute brings together more than two dozen extraordinary biologists and engineers, working together to advance the cause of cancer research. Drawn from throughout MIT, this potent multidisciplinary mix of brilliant minds will attack the disease from a number of innovative new angles. Even within the engineering faculty there is remarkable diversity, as the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering departments are all represented.

Working with the faculty will be almost 120 postdoctoral fellows and associates; 50 principal research scientists; approximately 70 technical assistants, associates, lab aides, and managers; over 175 graduate students and 70 undergraduates, and more than a dozen visiting scientists and students, for a total research force of almost 500 individuals. More than two dozen individual labs will be housed in and around the Institute.

"The Koch Institute will change the face of cancer research, not just at MIT but worldwide. By having expert cancer biologists working on trying to understand the disease at a molecular level interacting closely with engineers who are working on solving cancer-related problems, we will rapidly deliver improvements in cancer care."

Tyler Jacks, Ph.D.
Director, David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research
