Cell vs WiFi is an app for measuring and comparing WiFi and cellular network (3G, LTE, etc.) performance on Android devices. It measures WiFi link speed, WiFi RSSI, cellular network type, cellular signal strength, DNS lookup time, Ping RTT, uplink/downlink throughput, all with just one user click! You can check the results immediately and learn which network works better at your current location.
As part of our research project at MIT, the app collects anonymized data and delivers it to our server. The goal of the research is to use this data to make future smartphones, including yours, intelligently and automatically select the best network interface, rather than make an arbitrary choice or ask the user.
