We should get to know each other.
The Chemical Engineering Department trains students, advances technology, and maintains expertise. We welcome interaction with industry in all these activities.

Research - a significant fraction of our research funding comes from industry. Numerous exclusive licenses have been granted for products and processes that resulted from chemical engineering research at MIT. In addition, we typically have several visiting researchers in residence, sponsored by their companies to work with particular faculty members.

Graduate fellowships - a number of companies sponsor named fellowships for first-year graduate students. This affords a company name recognition among the students and allows the company to develop relationships with particular students at the beginning of their graduate studies.

Recruiting our graduates - S.B. degree recruiting is done through MIT Career Services; the department handles graduate degree recruiting directly. We encourage companies to become acquainted with faculty members whose research is of interest; such a relationship may lead to successful recruiting of students with particular expertise.

Industrial seminars - the AIChE student chapter solicits companies to visit the department and describe themselves to undergraduate students. Most often, such a presentation is coordinated with a campus recruiting trip. Companies may also target recruiting presentations to graduate students. On occasion, company visitors offer technical or research presentations.

The MIT Professional Institute - summer classes taught by ChemE professors. Executives, managers, and practitioners worldwide come to gain crucial knowledge and return with applicable skills. [2008 Course List.]

10.26 Project Laboratory - in the Project Laboratory course, teams of juniors and seniors work on term-long projects sponsored by industry. No fee is charged, but the sponsor is asked to supply any specialized equipment or supplies that may be required. Our sponsors have included a remarkable variety of companies, large and small, making everything from analytical instruments to artists' supplies.

Practice School - for over 80 years, Chemical Engineering graduate students have attended Practice School at host company stations. Our host companies today are wide-ranging, in both technological area and geographical location.

We have a lot to show you in our department, of course, but you should also look at the rest of MIT. Visit the links for the Industrial Liaison Program, the Office of Corporate Development, and the Technology Licensing Office to learn how companies make use of MIT's resources.
