Surrounding Yourself with Success

Welcome. The Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT is the birthplace of chemical engineering, the home of individuals whose vision and enterprise shaped the developing profession, and a dynamic leader on the frontiers of chemical engineering today. If you plan to study chemical engineering, you should strongly consider MIT. For example:

  • We have the largest chemical engineering faculty in the United States. That means we can cover chemical engineering broadly, and in great depth. You will find something to intrigue you here.
  • Chemical engineering is an interactive field, and so you should look beyond a department to its environment. At MIT, Chemical Engineering is one of many fine departments; you will encounter a wealth of course offerings and collaborative research opportunities.
  • At MIT the boundaries are porous and the barriers are low. Interdisciplinary cooperation is a pillar of our culture, within the Institute and beyond to other universities and a variety of institutions and companies.
  • The people - a distinguished faculty, a large supporting staff, a surprising number of visiting researchers, and a superb student body. People who are highly accomplished, hard-working, committed to their profession, but talented enough to carve out time for a variety of pursuits.

At MIT, chemical engineering is called Course 10. Use the "UNDERGRADUATE" and "GRADUATE" buttons in the main navigation bar to learn about the Course 10 curricula. Then explore the rest of the site to learn more about us. Pleasant travels!
