Studies of synapse development and plasticity

We are interested in helping the neuroscience community unravel the molecular mechanisms of synapse development and plasticity. Using novel probes and labeling methods developed in our group, we are studying the trafficking, turnover, and interactions of specific molecules that function at pre- and post-synaptic membranes, including the AMPA-type glutamate receptor, neurexin, and neuroligin. Our goal is to develop molecular models of how these proteins function in synapse formation, synapse maturation, and synapse remodeling in response to neuronal activity.
