Each year Course 5 holds an Undergraduate Research Symposium in the spring semester to celebrate research being conducted by UROP students working in laboratories of the chemistry faculty. The symposium consists of a two-hour morning poster session accompanied by the requisite coffee and muffins, a half-hour lunch break, and an afternoon cycle of oral presentations typically featuring seniors who have accomplished significant research. All interested MIT undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctorals, and faculty are cordially invited to attend this enjoyable and stimulating event. Dr. Kimberly Hamad-Schifferli, Homer A. Burnell Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Biological Engineering will speak at this year's Undergraduate Research Symposium which will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Room 6-104 (Chipman Room). Strem Chemicals has agreed once again to support the $250 prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. All undergraduates doing chemistry research are encouraged to participate. There will be a poster session from 10 am-12 noon (refreshments available at this time), followed by lunch, and then oral presentations from 12:30-2:00 pm. The oral presentations are usually set aside for seniors. Students interested in presenting should contact Allison Kelsey by phone (617) 258-0848 or e-mail akelsey@mit.edu. |
