Eastman Kodak Research Recruiting
Dr. Ralph Nielsen (MITU88, Buchwald Group) will be in the Department of Chemistry recruiting for positions in Physical, Physical-Organic, and Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Invited to apply are 1) physical chemists with experience in kinetics/thermodynamics, structure-activity relationships, and material synthesis/characterization; 2) physical-organic chemists with experience in mechanistic structure-activity relationships, kinetics, and some synthetic experience; and 3) synthetic organic chemist with experience in molecular modeling and structure-activity relationships, heterocyclic chemistry a plus. Anyone interested should sign up on for interviews on the Placement Bulletin board outside of the Headquarters Office (18-390) and leave a copy of their résumé with M.-T. Kouo in 18-398. Interview Schedule and résumés will be sent by FAX to Dr. Nielsen on March 1.
Dr. Nielsen will do a presentation on research at Eastman Kodak on Monday, March 6 from 6-7 PM in the Toxicology Faculty Lounge (16-322). Anyone interested in Eastman Kodak is invited.
Outreach Meeting
Would you like to visit area high schools and perform chemistry demonstrations? Come to our meeting on Monday, March 6 at 5:30 PM in the Norris Room (18-490). We will be forming teams and choosing which schools to visit. Please contact Kathy Lee or Sandy Gould at 3/1836 if you have any questions.
UNDERGRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES
Call for Papers
- The 34th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium of the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society will take place on Saturday, April 29, 1995 at Boston University. Deadline for abstracts: April 14, 1995.
- There will be an Undergraduate Research Poster Session at the 210th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Chicago, IL, August 20-24, 1995. Deadline for abstracts: April 7, 1995.
- University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA is offering three programs this summer at part of the Howard Hughes Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). These programs offer talented undergraduates the opportunity to experience hands-on laboratory research as part of a university laboratory team.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
For more info on the opportunities listed below, please check the blue binders in Headquarters.
Faculty Positions
- University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT has initiated a search for a new Chair of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy.
- California State University, Long Beach, CA has part-time lectureships available for conducting problem sessions in general chemistry and supervising laboratories in introductory chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry and quantitative analysis.
- University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Position open for an assistant professor, preferably in physical organic chemistry.
Postdoctoral Positions
- Prof. Kenneth M. Nicholas, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK has a postdoctoral position open in his group to do research on the activation of carbon dioxide by transition metal complexes.
