KUDOS
Congratulations are in order for Prof. Alexander Klibanov, who has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
Alexandra (Sandy) E. Gould, a graduate student in Rick Danheiser's research group, will receive the Roche Award for Excellence in Organic Chemistry from Hoffmann-LaRoche, Inc. She will receive a prize of $1,500 at an award symposium at Roche.
5th Annual Cambridge Biotechnical/Pharmaceutical Job Fair

This is a unique forum in which Biotechnical/Pharmaceutical employers interview experienced candidates with a diverse level of skills. Twenty companies will be participating, including Baxter, Genzyme, Food and Drug Administration, Nexium, Amgen, Genetics Institute, Pfizer, and MIT.

Positions Available
- Polaroid Corporation, Waltham, MA is looking for an environmental intern to work for up to one year with the Corporate Environmental Team. This is a paid position.
- Tufts University School of Medicine/NE Medical Center, Boston, MA is recruiting a research assistant in the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases. This is a full time position in a research laboratory studying various aspects of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) immunobiology. The candidate should have a basic knowledge of biologic principals and a BA, BS or more advanced degree.
Fellowship
- The American Health Foundation, New York, NY is offering the Aziz Abbaspour Memorial Fellowship in memory of a dedicated and talented researcher. It will support a summer student research program in environmental and chemical carcinogenesis. Candidates must be chemistry or biochemistry majors who have completed 2-3 years of undergraduate training. Stipend is $4000 for a 12 week commitment.

Faculty Positions
- University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. Applications are invited for a Temporary Lectureship in Theoretical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. The appointment will be from 1 October 1995 or as soon as possible thereafter and will be for a fixed term of three years.
- Tufts University, Medford, MA invites applicants for a Lecturer/Research Postdoctoral Associate. Position includes teaching and research responsibilities. The successful candidate should have experience with high-power, pulsed lasers and ideally with nonlinear spectroscopies.
- Cleveland State University, Cleveland, OH has an opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor for one year. A Ph.D. in chemistry with organic emphasis and teaching experience is required.
- New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, NM has four positions open: (1) Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry (computational); (2) Assistant Professor of Bioinorganic Chemistry and Organometallic Chemistry; (3) Temporary Assistant Professor of Chemistry to teach analytical and instrumental chemistry; (4) Temporary Assistant Professor of Chemistry general chemistry.
- Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS has a temporary position for an assistant professor of organic chemistry.
- University of California, Davis, CA has a position open for an assistant professor of tropospheric chemistry within the Atmospheric Science program of the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources.
- Buffalo State College, Buffalo, NY has a position open for an assistant professor of inorganic/bioinorganic chemistry.
Postdoctoral Positions
- Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, MS. A position is available immediately with Professor S. C. Foster. The successful candidate will study the spectra of jet-cooled free radicals generated in a corona discharge, and will have an opportunity to study small polyatomic ions in hollow-cathode discharges. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with the possibility of an extension.
- Lilly Research Laboratories, Indianapolis, IN seeks candidates with strong synthetic organic chemistry background for a postdoctoral research position in the Infectious Disease group.
