Chemistry Holiday Party
The Departmental Holiday Party will be held on December 19 in the Sala de Puerto Rico room in the Stratton Student Center. The festivities beginning at 3:30 PM and lasting until about 7:30 PM, will feature hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and buffet dinner. All faculty, staff, postdocs, and students are invited and encouraged to bring spouses and children. We are interested in volunteers for entertainment (music, skits, etc.) and those interested should contact Tim Swager (18-207) for guidelines. Only pre-approved performances will be accepted. Tickets will be $4 in advance and $6 at the door, children under 10 years are free. Tickets will be available after November 21 from Ms. Jean Harrington (18-207) and may be purchased between the hours of 12:30 and 2:00 PM daily.
Dr. Jeffrey Simpson, Chemistry's New Director of Spec Lab - Visiting Week of December 2nd
Dr. Jeffrey Simpson, the new Director of the Department's Spectroscopy Laboratory will be visiting the Boston area the week of December 2-6. Special Seminar
Dr. Jim Hauske, Senior Vice-President, Discovery, from Sepracor, Inc., Malborough, MA will be offering a special seminar, Wednesday, November 20th, 1996. His seminar, titled, "Metatesis Approach to Combinatorial Chemistry - New Structures with InVitro Activity versus Methicillin Resistant Staph and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcu." will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Norris Room, (18-490). Interviews held immediately following presentation, sign-up sheet for interviews on the placement bulletin board outside of Department Headquarters Office (18-390) for Posdocs and Ph.D. Candidates in Organic Chemistry.

Postdoctoral Positions
- The National Institute of Standards and Technologies, Gaithersburg, MD: Invites postdocs to apply for postion in the research laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey W. Hudgens, Physical and Chemical Properties Division. The appts. will be under the auspices of the National Research Council for a two-year period. The candidate must select a research project and submit a short research proposal, some of which include: cavity-ring-down spectroscopy and its application to chemical kinetics in the gas and liquid phases; multiphoton ionization spectroscopy of free radicals, ions, and reaction intermediates; photochemistry and reaction rates of organic and inorganic free radicals and very accurate determinations of free radical ionization potentials and ion structure.
