Faculty Positions

Please note, unless otherwise specified, most faculty positions require a resume, short description of research plans and to arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the specific university or college

Clarkson University: The Chemistry Department at Clarkson University seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in organic/polymer chemistry. A Ph.D. with research complementing departmental programs and those at the Center for Advanced Material Processing is required; postdoctoral experience is preferred. Promotion requires a productive extramurally-funded research program and excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants with especially prominent resumes can apply to the Distinguished University Scholar Program where they will receive a 3-yr appointment and salary increase of up to 25%. Please submit vitae, research plans, teaching philosophy and 3 letters of recommendation to Professor Yuzhuo Li, Faculty Search Committee Chair, Department of Chemistry, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY 13699-5810. Initial application via e-mail is strongly encouraged (yuzhuoli@clarkson.edu). Position starts 8/15/99. Yuzhuo Li, Associate Professor of Chemistry Department of Chemistry, 221 Science Center Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY 13699-5810- (315) 268-2355 (office), -6610 (fax), -3806 (lab) http://www.clarkson.edu/chemistry/newfaculty.html yuzhuoli@clarkson.edu or yzl@usa.net

Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position in surface science at the Physics Department of Iowa State University/Ames Lab Department of Energy is available starting January 1999 for one year with the option to renew for a second year. The group is currently using STM and SPALEED for the characterization of epitaxial growth and dynamic processes on surfaces.Recent work involve surface diffusion measurements on H/Si(111)in real time with the STM and the role of quantum size effects in metal/semiconductor growth,Pb/Si(111) from LEED spot profile analysis. Background in surface science and familiarity with the above techniques are great advantages. Send CV with the names of three references to Prof. M. C.Tringides Department of Physics, Iowa State University Ames IA 50011( email adress:tringides @ameslab.gov) review their website at: http://www.umt.edu/chemistry for more information.

Postgraduate position in Surface Simulation Computational Materials Science, Daresbury Laboratory, and Department of Chemistry, University of Manchester. This three year research position leading to a PhD has been funded within the Total Technology programme by the EPSRC, University of Manchester and CCLRC. The successful candidate will work at Daresbury Laboratory, under the co-supervision of Dr NM Harrison and Prof. G Thornton, on fundamental studies of the electronic structure of oxide surfaces through first principles simulations. The project is a part of a well established research programme involving groups throughout Europe, in South Africa and the USA. The combination of simulation and a wide variety of experimental techniques will be used to study problems of relevance to industrial catalysis, environmental science and device physics.
