Vacancies on the Chemical Hygiene/Safety Committee

Graduate students interested in joining the Chemistry Department Chemical Hygiene and Safety Committee are invited to submit their names to Marsha Myles, email: mmyles@mit.edu. Members of the Committee participate in inspections of department laboratories (approximately one inspection per month) and attend meetings (ca. 2 per year) to discuss and formulate Chemistry Department safety policy. No prior experience in safety-related matters is necessary.

Check Website for Latest New Books

The latest new book list of chemistry and chemical engineering books from November 16, 1998 to February 15, 1999 can be found at the website: http://libraries.mit.edu/science/Subjects/Chemistry/news.html

Get Organized!

Call Ed Udas at 253-4505 or stop by room 6-026 if students, faculty, or staff need help in organizing their MIT space.

Glass Blowing Services

Bob DiGiacomo will be coming in on Wednesdays or Thursdays to pick up any glass blowing work that you may have available. Please bring any work to room 6-031 or call Ed Udas or John Annese at 3-4505. Bob will do the work on a first-come, first-served basis

Postdoctoral Positions

Or more postdoctoral positions available immediately in the laboratory of Charles G. Riordan. The successful candidate would be involved in one of several ongoing projects in the group the general theme of which is the application of our poly(thioether) chelate ligands in bioinorganic (functional modeling of the zinc site in methionine synthase), organometallic (preparation and reactivity of low-coordinate organocobalt and organonickel complexes) and coordination chemistry (three-coordinate nickel thioether, thiolates). Representative publications include: Inorg. Chem. 1998, 37, 4754; Coord. Chem. Rev. 1998, 174, 301; J. Phys. Chem. 1998, 102, 8343; Chem. Commun. 1999, 159. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in synthesis including manipulation of air-sensitive compounds, physical measurements (NMR, EPR, FT-IR) and reaction kinetics including stopped-flow spectroscopy. The initial appointment is for one year with salary commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a list of publications and three letters of reference. Email is the most convenient way to send the information: riordan@UDel.Edu To Charles G. Riordan, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Delawark, Newark, DE 19716, Tel: (302)831-1073 (office), (302)831-4518 (lab), Fax: (302)831-6335 homepage: http://www.udel.edu/chem/riordan/
