Stereospecific Palladium-Catalyzed Entry to Monoalkyl Diazenes for Mild Allylic Reduction
M. Movassaghi* and O. K. Ahmad Angew.

Chem. Int. Ed. 2008Omar K. Ahmad of the Movassaghi group reports the first example of a stereospecific transition metal-catalyzed conversion of allylic electrophiles to the corresponding monoalkyl diazene intermediates. This new synthesis of monoalkyl allylic diazenes offers new opportunities for asymmetric synthesis via the reduction of optically active substrates or the use of chiral catalyst systems as described in the report. Sensitive substrates that are incompatible with other methods are reduced with a high level of regio- and stereoselection. click here to read publication

TING RECEIVES 2008 NIH PIONEER AWARD

Alice Y. Ting, the Pfizer-Laubach Career Development Associate Professor of Chemistry, has been selected to receive a 2008 NIH Pioneer Award. Professor Ting will use her award to develop new approaches to the study of endogenous proteins in living cells. The goal is to circumvent the problems associated with recombinant protein and transgene expression in cells and tissue to enable the study of endogenous proteins in their native form and native context.

iamge of field

The Executive Board of the American Physical Society has awarded Robert W. Field, Haslam and Dewey Professor of Chemistry, the 2009 Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science, endowed by the NEC Corporation.
