We saw several different kinds of cicada in Japan, this one (probably the Shizuoka cicada folded by R. Lang) is by far the largest, about the size of a small mouse.
This is one of the ~7 insects I designed in the car on the way to Kyoto, during the post-JOAS2006 Convention. I've been trying not to rely so heavily on computers and even pencil drawings in the design process, even though they can be useful, they can also limit the discovery of folded structures that can be found through experimentation. The cicada is mostly box-pleated, with extra paper for forming the wing pleats. (something I like to do for flying insects) Designed and folded in Japan. |
