folded from an uncut square

Yes, this is not another arthropod! The newt offers many different challenges, one of which is for the body to have a clean surface free of pleats where they shouldn't be. The "box-pleat + 22.5" design of this model is heavily influenced by the style of Satoshi Kamiya and Jason Ku's crease patterns- the strip of pleats on the top two edges that allows for toes, and adherence to the 22.5 degree system greatly simplifies the folding sequence. Diagonal use of the paper also creates a much longer newt tail compared to the gecko/lizard.

Folded from a square.
