Route Information – Franconia Notch
The Franconia Notch area is one of the most famous and popular regions in the White Mountains. It contains many interesting features, and was once home to the New Hampshire's famous Old Man of the Mountain before it collapsed in May 2003.
I-93 passes through the region and provides easy access to a number of trailheads. To the east of the highway lies the Franconia Ridge, made up of the peaks of Mount Lafayette, Mount Lincoln, Mount Liberty, and Mount Flume; this is one of the highest ridges in the Whites after the Presidential Range.
To the west of the highway lies Cannon Mountain, and North Kinsman. Below these two mountains lie Kinsman Pond and the picturesque Lonesome Lake, both of which can provide excellent swimming opportunities.
