CIPD People
CIPD draws talented people from many departments and disciplines at MIT—engineering, management, marketing, mathematics—and joins them with a focus on product development. Center Director Chris Magee leads with more than 30 years of experience in industrial R&D and product development. Professor Magee’s expertise in systems engineering is important to the Center’s concentration on the understanding of complex systems.
CIPD faculty are drawn from MIT’s School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management, where they have repeatedly distinguished themselves with innovative and award-winning research.
CIPD students—nearly 300 since the Center’s inception in 1996—pursue curricula that explore novel PD concepts and practices. Most students graduate to dynamic careers in industry, often working for the very companies that sponsored their research at CIPD.
CIPD staff, under the direction of Assistant Director Nils Nordal, provide faculty and students with the support necessary to pursue groundbreaking PD research.
