Dr. Kavus Abushov is a visiting professor (Fulbright scholar) at the CIS and is an assistant professor of political science at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy in Baku. He received his PhD in political science from the University of Muenster, Germany with a thesis that examined Russian foreign policy towards the Southern Caucasus states. His research interests include international relations theory and foreign policy analysis, security studies and public international law with a geographic focus on the post-Soviet space. Dr Abushov has written various peer reviewed articles on issues relate to Russian foreign policy, territorial disputes and regional security. His research project at the CIS focuses on the governance promotion by the US and Russia in the CIS region.
