Liz Leeds is a Research Affiliate at MIT's Center for International Studies.
Leeds was Executive Director of CIS from 1989-1997. As a Program Officer for Governance and Civil Society in the Ford Foundation Brazil Office from 1997-2003, she initiated strategies for police reform and public safety and continues to be involved in those issues. In 2005 she co-founded the Brazilian Forum for Public Safety, based in Sao Paulo, and remains as Honorary President. She is a Senior Fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America advising on public safety issues in Brazil. At CIS she continues research on the challenges to institutional reform of the police in Brazil.
