CityDays is moving from Orientation to later in the fall semester. The MIT Public Service Center (PSC) is planning the CityDays Serve-Off for Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Mark your calendars and spread the word!
Building on the competitive spirit of MIT students, the CityDays Serve-Off will have groups of undergraduate and graduate students engaging in community service with the chance to win a grant for future community service activities or a charitable donation to an organization of the winning group's choosing.
During IAP, the PSC will offer its second annual IAP community service day. This event will be open to the entire MIT community for participation. This means students, staff, faculty, alumni, spouses and partners, and many others will all be invited to engage in community service together. We are excited to be reaching out to these MIT communities, but we also need your advice on how to best do so.
In the spring of 2013, we'll be piloting a CityDays model that incorporates an issue area theme and educational opportunity along with a hands-on service component. This may take the form of a panel or lecture led by an MIT volunteer, a faculty member doing research on the topic, or a representative from a local community organization. The chosen issue area topic will be mirrored in the service opportunities offered during that month. These events will also be open to the entire MIT community.
All of this programming is possible through the generous support of the MIT Coop, the MIT Community Service Fund, and other sponsors.
Stay tuned for more information! As we plan for the future, we are actively seeking input from the MIT community. Please send your suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
