The CityDays Serve-Off is a fun service event on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, (a student holiday!) for the entire undergraduate and graduate MIT community.
Sign up to volunteer at a community organization in the greater Boston area. The organizations provide aid in a wide range of areas, such as health/homelessness, education, women’s/gender issues, the arts, mentoring/tutoring, the elderly, and others. Learn more about these great opportunities.
This year, service opportunities will be offered throughout the day, so whether you’re free in the morning, afternoon, or evening, we’ll likely have an opportunity for you!
Also, there’s free stuff! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (depending on the time of your service placement) will be provided, and you’ll get a CityDays Serve-Off T-shirt.
Along with the awesome opportunity to serve local communities, this fall CityDays also includes a competition! Any undergraduate or graduate MIT student can sign up with their group of choice to help their group win one $400 prize to be used as a grant for future public service activities for the group or to be donated to a charitable organization of the group’s choosing.
Groups are split in to four categories: Fraternities, Sororities and Independent Living Groups; Residence Halls; Athletics (varsity and club); and Other Groups (all groups that don’t fall into the other three categories: academic, cultural, religious, service, and other groups, as well as “independents”).
Groups will compete within their categories for one $400 prize to be used as a grant for future public service activities for the group or to be donated to a charitable organization of the group’s choosing, awarded to the group who has the highest number of adherents who sign up and attend the CityDays Serve-Off. Winners opting for the service grant can use their $400 to develop, with the guidance of the Public Service Center, a service activity for their group within the academic year.
