MIT facts: tuition

Tuition for undergrads in 2000-2001 was $26,050 plus approximately $7,175 for room and board (varies greatly depending on the student's housing and dining arrangements). Books, materials and personal expenses (excluding travel) were about $2,875. MIT provides financial aid to help meet these costs, based on the calculated needs of the family. Approximately 60% of all undergrads receive some type of financial assistance. All aid recipients are expected to meet a portion of their need ($7,600 for 2000-01) through a loan, part-time job, or both. Last year, the average grant and scholarship awarded to students eligible for aid was $16,215.
