South Korea: Jeju Do: Day 2 (Wednesday)

(modified 6/5/06)

Day 1

Day 3

Day 2 was the first real day of the touring. We mounted one tour bus at 8am and got some where around 9am to switch to another bus. On the way, we stopped at several hotels to pick up other guests. Of the ~30 people, we were probably the only ones under 30 years old, and there were about 4 middle-aged people. Everyone else was probably over 50! I guess we got the retirement tour package instead of the honeymoon one!

Jeju had a large amount of farming country. There are hundreds of these stone walls built everywhere. The walls are interesting because they are a single layer in width of tight-fitting and often squared-off vulcanic stone (less the 1 foot), but can be as high as about 6 feet. Every time I saw one, I wondered why it didn't fall.

Heidi standing near the Dragon Rock, a region of rock near the water which was extremely foggy that morning.

Here you can see the fog was quite thick.

They had a horse ride there too.

These are 'Dol Ha Reu Bang' (stone grandfather) statues that are all over the island.

Some interesting stone buildings I shot while riding in the bus.

This is the most blue sky we saw the whole time there probably!

A "Happy Town", we saw some incredible Chinese acrobatics....

.... doing dangerous things ....

This girl was being flipped in various directions (and even double-flipped!)

This is a pile of 6 acrobats standing on their hands with some red things balanced on their heads while their legs were stretched backward into the sky.

More insanity.

We also went to Italy with NYC in the background. It was a scale theme park of various sites in the world.

Here we are in London with the Syndey Opera house nearby.

And Easter Island.

Here are some carved lava rock frogs.

And some carved faces.

Heidi went to Mt Rushmore.

And then we visited the Great China Wall.

And then we climbed the Eiffel Tower.

This was at a farm that grew incredibly delicious Jeju Oranges. They are sort of similar to Clementine oranges in taste and size, but they were SOOOO good. Actually, there are about 15 varieties of oranges growing in Jeju. We also heard about the 'miraculous' health benefits of eating Fig tree mushrooms at $80 for about a 12 oz of ground powder. Really, they were trying to sell this stuff to the gullible old people who are willing to pay anything for a miracle food for better health.

Here's a rock they had at the farm.

More awesome rocks.

Some weird scary looking plant.

This is at 'Weh Dol Geh', an area near the water with large beatiful rock formations.

They say the standing stone looks like a grandma with a perm from some directions.

Nice scene, but lots of fog!

I love photos of things illuminated from behind.

Now we're on a ferry getting a tour of the various tiny islands around Jeju. Those strange cement 'jacks' are to break up the waves in the case of a typhoon. It was very windy out there.

This was a cave on one of the 3 small islands we saw.

Scenery near that cave.

Another cave. Actually, there was a fisherman on the rock in front of the cave, but I can't see him here.

This is a 'Ko Gu Mung' (nostrils) cave.

On this island, there are a lot of white rabbits. The edge here is very steep and I wonder how many rabbits fall in the water every year!

Here, we're on our way to see a small waterfall. This foot bridge was really interesting.

Me on a different bridge.

Tourists near the waterfall.

The waterfall, probably about 30 feet high.
