South Korea: Jeju Do: Day 3 (Thursday)

(modified 6/5/06)

Day 1

Day 2

This is a view of the town behind our hotel. Pretty tight! Pretty foggy!

Here's a closeup of those cool stone walls, this one is only about 3 feet high.

Here's some fat sheep at 60 MPH.

Here's the fattest sheep.

Here we are at Elephant World, our favorite part of the trip!

At the entrace, you could buy bananas for the elephants and they would grab them with their nose and eat them. If you gave them money instead ($1 here), they would give it straight to their rider! Smart!

Here an elephant is painting up and down strokes using green paint. It's the stem of flowers...

...Now we're applying the yellows...

.... some more yellow 'flowers'...

... and some red 'flowers' to finish it!

There's the masterpiece!

And guess who got it! We did!!! Ever since my mom gave my an article about a lady who teaches elephants to paint around march this year, I wanted an elephant painting, and now we have one! Can't wait to frame it.

When elephants walk on two feet, it's pretty scary. They are really tall!

They did a little dance to music and spun around on these stools.

I just love those noses!

And the hula hoop! They could keep that thing twirling indefinetely!

Ever been stepped on by an elephant? I haven't, but these folks have! The elephant didn't put any weight down on the people, it was just to scare everyone!

Elephant bowling: this guy got a strike the first time!

This little boy didn't know what to do when the nose came right up to his face looking for bananas.

He just stared and stared!

Here we have elephant soccer. They could really kick that ball hard, but the goalie's reflexes were just too slow.

Here's a sequence of an elephant slam dunking a basketball! They also shot 1-pointers quite well. One attempted 3-pointers, but couldn't sink it.

Here's Heidi a little scared to pet the elephant.

Here's me enjoying my chance to pet one. Man they have rough skin!

Here's Heidi with our elephant painting next to an elephant! How cool is that!

Me with our painting. Didn't the elephants do a nice job painting flowers? I was so excited about the painting and elephants, I couldn't hold the canvas straight.

Here's a camel too.

And a cute scruffy pony.

Here we are at an old style village. Actually, they rushed us through the tour of only about 3 houses so they could talk to us about the health benefits of eating horse bone powder tea, again for about $80 for 12 oz. of powder for the gullible folks.

Now we're underwater! We paid extra to take a submarine tour, which was about 80 minutes total, including the boat ride to the submarine itself. It was very difficult to take photos down there due to the darkness, but a few came out ok. Heidi took this one of me looking out the window.

Here comes a diver with food to attract the fish.

Boy do they like that food!

More fish and a diver.

Heidi's taking video on the left side.

A lone fish.

Here are some underwaters plants and coral.

Pretty interesting photo.

More plants and coral.

The sign reads "It's a nice time today".

Air bubbles as we rise to the surface again.

People in the submarine.

Here we are back on the boat.

... In Korea, in case you forgot.

There's Heidi.

Now we're back at the airport ready to fly back to Busan, ending our trip with ice cream!
