Colin and Heidi in Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria for Daniel and Pavla Nagaj's Wedding

(modified 9/07)

  • We went to Europe for free because we accumulated so many miles from traveling to Korea and other destinations over the last few years.
  • The main attraction was the wedding of Daniel Nagaj and Pavla Cicelova in Bratislava, Slovakia. We ate a lot of good food there too! Next time, we would focus on at most two destinations, because it was just too hectic trying to figure out how to get from A to B every day, how much it would cost, where to go, and where to sleep!
  • We had about 3 full days in Bratislava, then 2 days in Prague, and 1 day in Vienna. We had US Dollars, Slovak Crowns, Czech Crowns and Euros in our packets, which was too confusing. The weather in Prague was on and off light rain, but cold. In Vienna, it rained nonstop and was freezing cold (well, down to 46 degrees F).
  • We learned to eat at pubs and buy food items (chocolate, beer to bring home, water) in the grocery stores to save money.
  • We also learned that it's good to know people in other cities, or at least that you should book your hotel 2 months in advance if 30,000 heart specialists are coming to the city for a conference, and the Pope is coming later in the week (That's why all the hotels were booked up to 1 hour outside Vienna!).
