Thesis Title:

Microscopic Investigation of Pharmaceutical Tablets

Research Description:

Tablet microstructure acts as a bridge between the materials/compaction process and the pharmacological properties of the final dosage form. However, the currently available methods can not provide reliable and direct measurement of the microstructure. I am developing a microCT measurement protocol coupled with a digital workflow for tablet porosity characterization. MicroCT imaging of tablet microstructure enables quantitative characterization with direct visualization, bringing us one step closer to a rational formulation design of pharmaceutical solid dosage forms. In a second portion of my work, formulation development for direct compression of a novel active pharmaceutical ingredient is being carried out.
