This talk will present several foundational results governing the zeros of single-variable complex polynomials. We will consider the continuity of zeros, the locations of critical points, and criteria for real polynomials to have all real roots. Applications abound in numerical analysis, control theory, and the 2014 Putnam exam. With time, we will ponder some startlingly elementary open problems.
