Community Digital is an organization dedicated to teaching computer
skills, basic and more business orientated. One of the projects pursued
by Community Digital is the computer training and job placement program.
The organization teaches people computer skills needed for various
jobs (spreadsheets, HTML, graphics, etc) and then helps them find
jobs based on the skills they have obtained. To help minorities enter
into business, they also provide workshops for minority business people
on how to use the Internet to help their businesses. Minorities are
not the only targets of Community Digital's programs. The organization
also tries to bring children and seniors together to create multi-media
projects that bridge the gap between two generations. Finally, on
a global scale, Community Digital is devoted to bringing technology
into third world countries.
From training students and unemployed workers for work in the computer
industry or in computer skills needed generally for other work, Community
Digital appears to be working in the right direction. Training people
with skills to produce helps not only the students but the teachers
as well. Computer skills are some of the most important skills needed
today. Unfortunately, the site for Community Digital does not provide
any information about the details of the various projects. The site
merely seems to work as an advertisement for the organization and
to elicit interest in their projects. It would have been interesting
to actually see what the group was doing in each of these projects
to meet their goals. The aim of Community Digital, of teaching others
to become more skilled, is one that should be commended, but their
site lacks any in-depth information about their activities.
