ModernHumorist.com is a site that offers a wide variety of humor
for those who use it. The majority of the content is satirical towards
politics, but pop culture, Hollywood, and the internet are also big
targets. One of the most amusing sections of the site is dedicated
to George "Dubya" Bush. The site is selling a fictitious
scrapbook which is imagined to be written by the president during
his election and first term. These include hilarious drawings of his
vice president, "Uncle Dick", and a page giving him Mnemonics
to remember his staff: (Coal+Inn Pow+El = Colin Powell). Another section
I found amusing was the Encyclopedia Brown Mysteries area. Here, current
events (like the Metallica lawsuit against Napster) are brought before
the boy detective in the same style as the short stories in the original
books. In the end, the villain is always determined to be "Bugs
Meany" who has somehow infiltrated into the Supreme Court or
some other public arena. Within the story there are also line drawings
that are similar to the ones in the book with funny captions. Having
read many Encyclopedia Brown stories when I was young I found this
to be a funny way to make a comment about current events.
Overall the site is quite good and new content is put up on the site
daily. I did feel like there was a large number of ads on the site
which detracted from it a bit, but I can understand the need to fund
the site. Definitely check the site out if you are a fan of witty
satire.
