Pre-season Viewer Chatter for New Television Shows
Media-buying agency Initiative Media conducted a viewer-based popularity survey of new network television series shows. Initiative termed this web chatter as “positive buzz.” The agency measured buzz by using consumer interviews, focus groups, and web-based chat rooms. Initiative’s research suggests that positive buzz before a television show’s premier will yield high ratings during the show’s first season and onward. Shows that have attracted a high flow of positive buzz include the following shows:
- ABC’s “Lost,”
- ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,”
- UPN’s “Everybody Hates Chris,”
- ABC’s “Commander in Chief,”
- CBS’s “Criminal Minds,”
- CBS’s “Ghost Whisperer,”
- NBC’s “My Name Is Earl,”
- ABC’s “Invasion,”
- NBC’s “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart,”
- WB’s “Supernatural,”
- CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother,” and
- NBC’s “Three Wishes.”
