CMS Now Accepting Applications for two 2006-07 MIT Postdoctoral
Fellowships in Comparative Media Studies

The MIT Program in Comparative Media Studies
is pleased to announce two postdoctoral teaching-research
fellowships for non-tenured scholars and teachers in media
studies. The fellowships are designed to encourage the academic
growth of promising media studies scholars with recent Ph.D.
degrees.
The appointments are for the one-year period
beginning July 2006, and each fellowship includes a stipend
of $40,000.
While in residence at MIT, postdoctoral
fellows hold program affiliation in CMS with limited duties
in ongoing CMS research programs and teaching, as well as
the opportunity to pursue his or her own scholarly work.
Each of the postdoctoral fellowships is
based on a different set of areas of specialization:

Entertainment Fellowship

Qualifications
We anticipate that each appointment will be a recent Ph.D.
from a major university with a background in media studies,
media production, and/or media education. Applicants should
be able to (1) teach one or more courses at the graduate
or undergraduate level related to their core areas of research
and (2) assist in the management and ongoing operations
of CMS research project groups which deal with games, learning,
and new media literacies. Women and minorities are especially
encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
You must have received the Ph.D. degree after September
2000. Applicants who will receive the Ph.D. degree by June
30, 2006 are eligible to apply. Such applicants must include
a letter of confirmation (see below).
Application Procedure
To apply, please prepare a letter of application, specifying
why you wish to come to MIT and which fellowship or area
of specialization you are interested in applying for. Include
the following materials, which should be postmarked on or
before March 10, 2006:
1. A curriculum vitae.
2. A detailed statement of current research
interests (1,000-3,000 words) that clearly outlines the
research you will undertake during the term of the fellowship.
3. One writing sample (no longer than 35
pages).
4. A two- to four-page statement of teaching
interests and two course proposals (subject area, brief
syllabus, proposed methods) for seminars
5. Three letters of recommendation (recommendations
may be those included in your placement dossier).
If you do not have the Ph.D. in hand at
the time of application, a letter of confirmation must be
received from your committee chair or department stating
that you will have the Ph.D. degree before the term of the
fellowship begins on July 1, 2006.
Application Deadline and Notification
of Awards
All application materials (including letters of recommendation)
must be postmarked on or before March 10, 2006. Faxed applications
will not be accepted. Only fully completed formal applications
will be considered. It is your responsibility to ensure
that all documentation is complete and that referees submit
their letters of recommendation to the following address:
