ABOUT / CMS

The MIT Comparative Media Studies Program (CMS) is a center for groundbreaking research that examines media technologies and their cultural, social, aesthetic, political, ethical, legal and economic impact. CMS includes graduate and undergraduate programs of study at MIT, where our students are trained to think critically about the properties of different media, and the shared properties and functions of media more generally. CMS students are trained to become leaders who shape and enhance our understanding of media, drawing on their background in the humanities and the social sciences to tackle compelling real-world problems. As part of this 'real world' approach, CMS faculty and students have undertaken cutting edge research across several media ever since the program's inception six years ago. (CMS website)
