This research seeks to expand knowledge of the fundamental mechanics and transport properties of lipid bilayers under electric fields with the eventual goal of developing a lipid based bio-membrane that could be actively controlled and tuned for various applications, e.g., molecular filtration, drug delivery, and water treatment or desalination.
