Congratulations graduates! Welcome, family and friends! It's Commencement Day at MIT.
The Commencement Exercises will be held in Killian Court rain or shine. The entrance to general seating is from Memorial Drive, and guests will need to pass through metal detectors at the entrance; it will speed the process if you have cameras and other electronics available for inspection. Be sure to join us after the ceremony for the reception on Kresge Oval.
Please note that we will be outdoors even if it rains so guests will want to dress appropriately. A list of indoor viewing locations is available here.
The MIT Community Service Fund (CSF) will host its annual sale of the plants adorning the Commencement stage. The sale begins at 3:30 today in Killian Court. Proceeds from sales of the plants support service to the local community by MIT staff and student volunteers.
Our primary concerns are the safety of our graduates and guests, and the ability of all to enjoy the celebrations. The MIT policy (available here) on demonstrations and leafleting at large campus events reflects the Institute's commitment to the free expression of ideas. There are designated and visible spaces allowed for that expression, and demonstrations and leafleting are not permitted to impede the Commencement Exercises. This is a special, and long-awaited, day for our graduates. It's time to celebrate.
