Hooding Ceremony

Tickets

Each graduate is allotted four (4) tickets to Commencement. S/he will pick up the tickets and should pass them to family and friends before the ceremony. With the exception of those with disabilities, all Commencement guests will be seated in the General section. A ticket allows admittance to Killian Court, but within the Court, seats are unassigned…the earlier you arrive, the more choice you have as to where to sit. Please remember to take your ticket with you if you decide to leave the Court at any time. You must have a ticket to be re-admitted.

Additional Tickets

If you have extra tickets, you may give them to a Guest Services volunteer (these are the people in the red vests) or turn them in at one of the two information booths so that they can be redistributed. Thank you.

We understand that some graduates would like more that four tickets so more family and friends may attend. The number of tickets distributed is determined by the number of graduates and safety regulations in Killian Court. While MIT cannot offer each graduate more than the allotted number (4), it is common for graduates who do not need all their tickets to share with others. If you would like more than four tickets, you might encourage your graduate to ask around before Commencement to see if any classmates have extras.

Please note that graduates are eligible for Commencement tickets only if they are processing that day and receiving a diploma. If they are not participating in commencement, no tickets will be issued.

The other option for extended families who do not have enough tickets is to watch the exercises at one of the many indoor viewing locations around campus. This is a particularly good option for elderly relatives or children who may be affected by heat and sun (or rain).

Guests are advised that no tickets to Commencement at MIT may be bought or sold under any circumstances.
