Charge

The Employee Benefits Oversight Committee (EBOC) is charged with providing integrated oversight of all employee benefits matters including cost, funding, programs, competitiveness, employee benefit rate impacts, and benefits philosophy. The Committee advises the Provost and Executive Vice President and Treasurer on employee benefit matters at MIT, and recommends policies and programs. It reports annually to the Executive Vice President and Treasurer on historical and projected costs, funding, employee benefit rate impacts, and the competiveness and utilization of programs. EBOC considers proposals for new aspects of our benefits programs, and charges subcommittees and working groups to address specific topics as appropriate.

EBOC is comprised of the Oversight Committee and three standing subcommittees:

Health Subcommittee

The Health Subcommittee is charged with providing recommendations and advice to the Employee Benefits Oversight Committee, the Provost, and the Executive Vice President and Treasurer regarding health, wellness, and medical care for the MIT community. Specifically, the Subcommittee provides integrated oversight of all programs that help employees and students live healthy lives. The Subcommittee oversees pricing for health programs, monitors trends and regulatory changes, and identifies and analyzes critical issues and priorities. The Health Subcommittee coordinates its work with the MIT Medical Management Board and MIT Medical Consumers Advisory Council.

Work-Life Subcommittee

The Work-Life Subcommittee is charged with providing recommendations and advice to the Employee Benefits Oversight Committee, the Provost, and the Executive Vice President and Treasurer regarding other benefits that MIT provides, such as parking and transportation and child care, which do not fall under the areas of health or retirement. The Subcommittee provides oversight of the offerings, their competitiveness and utilization. It evaluates and makes recommendations regarding new programs brought forward for consideration.

Retirement Subcommittee

The Retirement Subcommittee is charged with providing recommendations and advice to the Employee Benefits Oversight Committee, the Provost, and the Executive Vice President and Treasurer regarding the full range of retirement benefits including pension, 401k, and post-retirement health. To be convened.
