Getting to MIT:
Arrival by air: Taxi fare from Logan International Airport to the campus is approximately $20-30.00, regardless of the number of passengers. During rush hour, you should allow yourself at least an hour travel time. Public transportation from the airport to MIT is available. Although an inexpensive alternative, it is quite cumbersome with luggage and not recommended.
The Boston Coach car service can provide a chauffeured limousine or a New Yorker sedan for travel between the airport and the hotel. To contact them, call 800-672-7676. Provide the airline name, flight number and arrival time for best service.
Arrival by train: You will arrive in Boston at South Station. Taxi service and public transportation are available.
Arrival by cab: Please check your confirmation for actual street address. For dormitories on Memorial Drive, please note that the entrance is from the Amherst Street side of the building.
Arrival by car: MIT is located in Cambridge on Memorial Drive, a major roadway in the region's highway system. From the west and northwest, there is access to Memorial Drive from the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) and Route 2. From the north (Interstate 93/Southeast Expressway), the suggested approach is to connect with Storrow Drive in Boston via the central artery bridgeways, heading west on Storrow Drive. Take the Massachusetts Avenue exit onto the Harvard Bridge which crosses the Charles River and leads you straight to MIT's central entrance at 77 Massachusetts Avenue (Building 7).
There are a number of trains and buses which provide public transportation to the Cambridge/Boston area. The No. 1 bus stops at MIT’s main entrance (77 Massachusetts Avenue), and provides service to Harvard Square and downtown Boston. The CT1 bus departs from Central Square and also stops at MIT’s main entrance. The CT2 bus departs from Kendall Square and stops at the corner of Vassar and Massachusetts Avenue. The MBTA Red Line provides train service to the MIT area via stops at Central Square (on Massachusetts Avenue) and Kendall/MIT (on Main Street). Both stops are approximately a 10 minute walk to the main entrance of MIT. All public transportation systems run between the hours of 6:00 am and 12:30 am. You may find out more information, including information on purchasing a visitor pass, at the MBTA web site: http://www.mbta.com.
Taxis are available during the day on Massachusetts Avenue, directly in front of the Stratton Student Center, near the crosswalk.
The Stratton Student Center contains the Lobdell Food Court (second floor), LaVerdes Market (groceries, deli), the Tech Coop (books, greeting cards, MIT insignia items), CopyTech Express, the US Post Office, Alpha Cleaners, Technicuts Hair Salon, the Tech Barber, and Bank of America (some foreign currency exchange available). Please consult the various vendors for specific operating hours.
Medical Services: If you need immediate medical assistance while on campus, dial 100 from any campus telephone, and your call will be answered by MIT's Campus Police at any time of the day or night.
Smoking Policy: In accordance with the City of Cambridge smoking ordinance, smoking is prohibited in all academic, administrative and service buildings on campus.
