Information about the brush-up sessions The brush-up sessions are meant to refresh your memory and give you an opportunity to ask questions that arise while you are preparing for the testout exam. Please note that the brush-up sessions are *not* designed to teach you QR/stats/computing that you haven't had before! The IAP class, 11.960 - Statistics for Real Estate Analysis, introduces many of the relevant statistical methods and the Fall class, 11.913 - Data Management and Spatial Analysis, introduced some of the database and GIS techniques. Neither of these classes covers all the stats or computing in 11.220 but, if you have a good understanding of that material and some prior coursework or experience, then the brush-up sessions should give you a good shot at passing the QR/computing testout. Also, if you wish to get a jump on the learning curve for the software that we will use in the QR/computing lab exercises, you may find it helpful to do some of the computing lab exercises of the brush-up sesssions even if you do not plan to take the testout. The brush-up sessions will review the topics covered in the QR syllabus
(and outlined below). Last year's syllabus and associated lecture notes
and exercises are available online via Stellar: http://stellar.mit.edu/S/course/11/sp07/11.220/index.html Brush-up and Test-out Schedule The three days of QR brush-up will be held Monday through Wednesday, October 15, 16, and 17, 2007. The test-out is on Friday, October 19, 2007, 1 to 3 p.m., Room 37-212. The brush-up and test-out time and room schedule is as follows: Monday, October 15: Tuesday, October 16 and Wednesday, October 17 Monday, October 19, 2007, test-out exam: The lectures and labs will outline key concepts and illustrate them with examples and lab exercises. If you come to the labs and recitation sessions prepared with questions, these sessions will be much more valuable to you. (By questions, we mean questions about QR/stats principles and tools, not questions about the test-out exam! You should review the sample test-out exam, as well as past midterm and final exams, on the class website for that type of information.)
For a list of topics you will need to review to prepare for the QR test-out, click HERE. To take full advantage of the brush-up session you will need to come all three days. You are welcome, however, to come for as little or as much of the sessions as you like. We know that some of you are taking other classes during this week. Feel free to leave the brush-up and come back when your other class finishes. No credits will be given for the brush-up session. Created by Myounggu Kang on January 15, 2004.
