The exedra was used primarily for sitting and conversing. The exedra in the House of the Faun is located between the two porticoed gardens. On the floor a mosaic existed depicting the victory of Alexander the Great over Darius, King of Persia at the Battle of Isso in 333 BC. This mosaic suggests a possible connection between Alexander the Great and the owners of the house. Unlike other mosaics during this period, this particular work was created from tessarae as opposed to more commonly used stone.
