This year,
the policies of the IMF and World Bank were particularly important
issues for students from the SJC and others.
After the MIT administration selected
World Bank President James Wolfensohn as graduation speaker,
students organized to overturn the decision, calling
themselves the “Students for a Democratic Commencement.”
While their efforts
were unsuccessful, Wolfensohn agreed to a student forum on the day
of graduation.
