Will alternative institutions prove themselves capable of "getting things done," and go on to have an impact on the current system? Will Indymedia's goal of encouraging people to "become the media" empower them to take control over areas of their life they are used to "leaving in the hands of the corporations?" And will collaborative, non-hierarchical methods prove to be successful organizing tools?

While we are contemplating these questions, the students in this story are out trying to do something.

"As far as people who ask you why you are out protesting," said Julia Steinberger. "I say, what else are you going to do, sit home and watch TV?"
