Hanabi Shiseido Java Calendar by John Maeda
| John Maeda is a professor in the MIT Media Lab. His company created a series of Java calendars for Shiseido, the Japanese cosmetics company. There is a lot of play with typography and the way the calendar dates are animated try to aesthetically convey the mood of the season. July and August are seasons of fireworks in Japan. His corresponding Hanabi applet shows calendar dates catching fire and taking off into a spray of color. It's not an elaborate narrative, but one can almost visualise yourself in a fall evening, running from rocket to rocket, and seeing each one fly into the air. |
