Proppian Analysis of Doctor Who

Beginning:
- The Doctor needs time to recover from a "regeneration." (several stories: The Twin Dilemma, Time and the Rani, and Enemy Within, others)
            - The Doctor recovers and/or remembers who he is. Generally, this also means a wardrobe change.
- An enemy, usually another Timelord, plots to trap and/or destroy the Doctor (many)
- The Doctor's machine, the TARDIS, is malfunctioning. (Vengeance on Varos, The Daleks)
            - The Doctor needs something to repair the TARDIS, and sets out to find it.
- The Doctor is sent by the Timelords, UNIT, and/or a higher being to fix a problem. (the Key to Time series, the n Doctors)
- The Doctor randomly lands on a planet. (More often than not)

Rising Action:
- The Doctor finds and/or recruits allies. (Earthshock, many others)
            - The allies are strong, but corrupt.
            - The allies are small, but tenuous. (Vengeance on Varos)
            - The allies are currently captured and/or enslaved. (Time and the Rani)
- The Doctor (and/or his companions) get attacked. (many)
            - The Doctor runs away, surprised at being attacked.
            - The Doctor, if he knows what attacked him, tries to figure out why they are. (The Five Doctors, et al.)
            - The Doctor destroys his attackers (likely with help). (Earthshock)
- The Doctor finds something wrong on the planet. (Many, many, the planet usually being Earth.)
            - The problem is a result of extraterrestrial beings. (Survival, Terror of the Autons, several.)
            - The problem is the result of another person (usually a Timelord). (Most of the Master episodes, the Five Doctors)
            - The problem is the result of a race (usually man)'s incompetence and/or greed. (Inferno, several 3rd Doctor stories)
            - The problem is the result of the Doctor himself (Silver Nemesis, Resurrection of the Daleks).
- One of the Doctor's companions gets into trouble. (many)
            - The companion gets impersonated by someone else. (Time and the Rani)
            - The companion gets kidnapped. (many)
- The Doctor gets put on trial for his actions. (The War Games, Trial of a Timelord, The Deadly Assassin)
            - The person running the trial is corrupt, and wishes to get rid of the Doctor. (Trial of a Timelord, Deadly Assassin)
- The Doctor gets caught up in the politics of the location he is on. (many)
            - The Doctor favors one side, and tries to lead it to victory. (The Daleks)
            - The Doctor favors neither side, and tries to do his own purpose. (Resurrection of the Daleks, Curse of Fenric)

Climax:
- A person or persons, usually greedy, try to stop the Doctor. (The Daleks, Vengeance on Varos)
- The Doctor finds an item (or items) to help him in his cause. (Remembrance of the Daleks, the Curse of Fenric)
- The Doctor is helped by an enemy who has their own reasons (related to allies above, Trial of a Timelord, The Five Doctors)
- The Doctor uses his knowledge to stop the problem. (many)
- The Doctor is punished or rewarded for his actions. (The War Games, several others)
            - The Doctor refuses (or refuses to acknowledge) this result. (Enlightenment)
- The Doctor leaves (mostly with others) in his TARDIS. (almost always)
- The Doctor (and/or a companion) is destroyed (with the Doctor regenerating). (several)
